Mount Everest is situated in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas on the Nepalese-Chinese border and is also known in as Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in China as Chomolungma. Mount Everest attracts various mountaineers and climbers; some of them are extremely skilled mountaineers. Here we are giving you are some interesting facts about Mount Everest.

1. It was first recognized for the western world by a survey team of Britain which was lead by Sir George Everest in 1841.

2. Mount Everest according to a research continues to grow about 4 millimeters every year (4mm). The reason behind its growing is that the Indian subcontinent was initially an independent landmass which collided with the Asia and leads to the forming of Himalayas and that continental are still moving that’s why pushing the Mount Everest ever higher.

3. During the warmest month in Nepal that is August, the temperature of Mount Everest is about -20 degrees, and drops to the -27 in the month of February. The lowest temperature on peak of the mountain is about -60 degrees, along with a wind chill feature of -76.

4. In Mount Everest where you cant even breathe properly, you will find the spiders there. There the tiny spiders manage well to feed on whatsoever stray insects the harsh winds blow there. They are almost the only animals which are permanently based at this high altitude.

5. There is a dispute about the height of Mount Everest. According to China, the height of the mountain is 8,844 meters (29,016 ft) while as per the Nepal its height is 8,848 meters (29,029 ft). But in the year 2010, both the countries came to an agreement that the official height of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters.

6. The mountain was formed approximately 60 million years ago.


7. Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary were the first human beings to go up the mountain. They climb the Mount Everest on May 29 in the year 1953. The annual celebrations are held in Nepal for commemorating the initial climb made by the Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

8. The first woman to climb the Mount Everest was Junko Tabei from Japan in the year 1975.

9. Avalanches on the Mount Everest are the main cause of death. In the year 1996, 15 climbers lost their lives as they tried to move down from the mountain because of an avalanche.

10. There are about 4 thousand people who have tries to climb up on the mountain but out of 4ooo only 660 have succeeded. About 140 climbers died while trying as the peak is the 5 ½ above the sea level.  

11. There is also a human traffic jam on the Mount Everest. Yes, during the climbing season in the year 2012 about 234 climbers reached to the peak on a single day in the month of May; whereas the hundreds of other turned around. Moreover, the mass of the climbers cause some to wait for about 2 hours for starting the climb to the summit.

12. It takes approximately 40 days for climbing Mt. Everest in order for the body to change or adjust to the high height.
