Almost all people in India have heard about “Parathe
Wali Gali” in Old Delhi, especially those who love eating parathas. Being the
capital of India, Delhi is well-known all over the world for its great history,
places to visit, and scrumptious north Indian food as well. So, I thought that
after visiting this famous “Parathe Wali Gali” in old Delhi I must share my
views with you all.
# Overview
Paranthe Wali Gali is a well-known street in Chandni
Chowk, Delhi known for selling the best parathas. In this legendary street, there
are some of the oldest shops which have been in the trade of serving delicious
parathas for ages. Here, you can get lots of varieties of Parathas such as dry
fruit paratha, aloo, gobhi, mooli, gazar, bitter gourd, mix, and lots more. These
are served with curries, chutney, salad, and others. In this picture, you can
see I opted to eat Dry fruit and Matar paratha at the Kanhaiyalal Durga
Prasad Dixit Parathe Wala.
At Kanhaiyalal Durga Prasad Dixit Parathe Wala, there are a bunch of tables and benches but if there will be a crowd then you have to share the table with other customers as well. From a dozen of parathas, you can choose from their menu as per your choice. Choosing dry fruit paratha and matar (peas) paratha was not a bad choice. I found them very tasty and are reasonably priced as per the popularity of the place.

# History of Parathe Wali Gali
At present, Paranthe Wali Gali has a culinary cuisine
of a wide range of parathas but it was not like that from starting. Pandit Gaya
Prasad Paranthe Wala was one of the oldest shops residing within the lane and
dates back to the 1870s. So, the legacy carries till now and make it one of the
most famous places in the capital of India. Followed by the first shop, three
other shops opened there, Pt. Kannaiylal Durga Prasad Dixit, Pt. Gaya Prasad
Shiv Charan Paranthe Wala, and Pt. Baburam Devidayal Parathe Wala.
By the year 1911, this zone, known as Chota Dariba or Dariba Kalan, and afterward got the name Paranthewali Gali. Just after independence, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit came to taste parathas in this Gali. So, this is how this Gali came into existence and got huge popularity. In addition to this, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was also a resident of Parathe Wali Galli.
# Final Words
As there are many places to visit in and around Delhi, but Parathe wali Gali has its own popularity. Chandni chowk too is very popular for shopping and for delicious food. While visiting that place you can also visit Red Fort, Gurudwara, and Jama masjid. So, next time you visit Delhi, don’t forget to visit the famous Parathe wali Gali and taste the parathas there. Though the parathas I found are overrated but trying once is surely worth it. So, visit there and have scrumptious parathas!
