A crucial milestone was marked when an Airbus A320 landed at Noida (Jewar) International Airport from IGI Airport. As per the reports, the flight operation from Jewar Airport may start from the month of April, 2025 which would surely transform connectivity for Greater Noida and other places as well in Uttar Pradesh.

After IGI, (Indira Gandhi International Airport) Noida Airport will be the second largest airport in Delhi, NCR. The airport has been constructed in four phases at a projected price of INR 29,650 crore and spans 1,334 hectares. The first phase will have a single runway with an investment of approximately INR 10,056 crore. Once it is constructed fully, then it is expected to handle 70 million passengers yearly. With the Uttar Pradesh government, under a public-private partnership model, the airport’s concessionaire Yamuna International Airport Private Limited which is a subsidiary of Zurich International Airport has undertaken this project.

An authenticated flight was conducted at Jewar International Airport on 9 December 2024 that tested air traffic control systems, navigational aids as well as critical infrastructure. To get the aerodrome certification from DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation ) these tests were important.  Christoph Schnellmann, the Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport explains this wonderful achievement as a delighted and proud moment. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu highlights the significance of this airport. He said that Noida International Airport is a prominent project catering to the Delhi NCR region and Western Uttar Pradesh as well. In addition to this, this airport will boost Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states such as Haryana and Rajasthan. Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu also appreciates the officials, laborers, and farmers, who worked dedicatedly. He also gave credit to the federal and state governments for constructing the airport on schedule and working hard together.

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the validation flight follows the successful standardization of ILS (Instrument Landing Systems) and PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicators) to safeguard operational readiness. It has been confirmed by the officials that the inauguration of an airport may be done by April 2025.

On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh now boasts the highest number of operational airports in India. By April 2025 the figure will be 17 with an addition of Noida International Airport.
